Key Points & Tips

1.       Keep It Simple Silly

1.1.    The simpler the drill to explain the better the participation
1.2.    If you confuse the kids they will often not do what you intended them to do

2.       No lines

2.1.    Kids get bored too easily
2.2.    If you have kids “goofing off” change the drill so they are not standing around

3.       Ask Questions

3.1.    Engage the kids by leading them to the answer, after if they tell you they believe it
3.2.    Get the kids to answer key points to get them engaged

4.       Repeat back to me

4.1.    If a child is not doing what they are supposed ask them to repeat them

5.       Don’t yell at kids or mistakes

5.1.    This league is for fun and everyone makes mistakes
5.2.    Also if you say a child’s name they will turn to look at you rather than doing what you would like them

6.       Make it fun

6.1.    Be positive, not negative
6.2.    If you need to be corrective sandwich in between positive statements

7.       No girls vs boys

7.1.    Instead reverse the shirts so the jerseys are the wrong way
7.2.    Pick odd colours (if kids have layers) vs your colour

8.       No hands

8.1.    Avoid using hands on the ball at all times for both your players and yourself
8.2.    Only exceptions are for throw in drills or if someone is playing goal keeper
