First Night
We all know that the first night is the most chaotic. Following these tips can help the beginner coach and veteran coach alike
Beforehand
- Send out an email to all parents about first night and season expectations
- Make sure to BCC all email addresses to prevent anyone’s email from being shared
- Suggest getting a clipboard, marker, clothespins to help out
- Print out Team list and snack signup sheet
- Prepare 2-3 drills, you may not even go through 1 drill
- Fill out all the names of your players except their numbers on sheet and clothes pins
- Organise Jersey’s, socks & shorts together
- Have them from smallest (smallest shirts) to highest number (large shirts)
- Leave aside highest and lowest number
First night
- Hand out snack signup sheet
- Gather up all the kids for a simple warm drill
- Get the children to line up smallest to highest
- Hand out jersey’s to smallest to largest, write down the numbers
- Try to use the names of children when possible
- When you address the kids get down to their level, you do not need to address the parents as they will listen while you address their children
