First Night

We all know that the first night is the most chaotic.  Following these tips can help the beginner coach and veteran coach alike

Beforehand

-          Send out an email to all parents about first night and season expectations
-          Make sure to BCC all email addresses to prevent anyone’s email from being shared
-          Suggest getting a clipboard, marker, clothespins to help out
-          Print out Team list and snack signup sheet
-          Prepare 2-3 drills, you may not even go through 1 drill
-          Fill out all the names of your players except their numbers on sheet and clothes pins
-          Organise Jersey’s, socks & shorts together
-          Have them from smallest (smallest shirts) to highest number (large shirts)
-          Leave aside highest and lowest number

First night

-          Hand out snack signup sheet
-          Gather up all the kids for a simple warm drill
-          Get the children to line up smallest to highest
-          Hand out jersey’s to smallest to largest, write down the numbers
-          Try to use the names of children when possible
-          When you address the kids get down to their level, you do not need to address the parents as they will listen while you address their children
